Mariners add top talent to 2014 AZL Mariners Roster With the opening of the Arizona Rookie League drawing closer the AZL Mariners added 10 draft picks from the 2014 draft to the roster. Listed below you will find all of their pertinent information from the draft websites. If anything at all, it should be fun to watch Gareth Morgan hit.  This kid is supposed to be the real deal.  We will certainly see if he can hit down south of the border in Arizona, and have to deal with some heat from advanced arms.  He will also need to adapt to the weather.  All in all this should team should be fun to watch. I should also mention that there are 2 college seniors from Oregon State.  If you know anything about college baseball, you know they produce good ball players.  Its also somewhat rare to see college position players in the AZL, either they will be studs or duds in this group full of high youngsters. RHP John Richy assigned to the AZL Dodgers The 21 year old right handed pitcher has been assigned to the AZL Dodgers.  John Richy was a 3rd round pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. Richy pitched at UNLV for the last 3 seasons, and is from Golden, Colorado.  If he can handle the heat, he figures to be at the top of the AZL rotation. The weather is a very tough obstacle in Phoenix, but hopefully with his expierience at UNLV it will not be a problem. AZL Brewers look like Early Favorite For people who are unfamiliar with the Arizona League, it can sometimes be a little unfair.  But when you draft like the Milwaukee Brewers did in 2014, nobody in Maryvale(or Wisconsin) will complain. With the AZL Brewers set to open on June 20th, they recently assigned 9 of their recent draft picks to the AZL. Below you can find a look at all 9; I will go in order of how they were drafted. The Brewers orginization sent picks their CA, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 27th, 30th, 33rd, 34th, & 35th round picks.  The Arizona league's toughest foe is the heat. Games start at 7 PM but, most of the time Temps are still in the 100's.
